Just after the Sharpie from yesterday's post left, a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers showed up at the feeders. They do love the suet and visit at least once every day. The male was first to the suet. One thing I have noticed with the Pileated Woodpeckers is that the front of the males head always seems to be clean, where as the females always are stained dark brown from wood sap. I wonder if she is already digging out a new nesting site.

Such beautiful birds! Nice images. :)
How exciting. The pilated have only visitied my feeders a couple of times that I know of. I hear and see them in their favorite tree. I guess I need to be thankful that I did get some pictures when they did come, but it sure would be fun to see them up close once again.
Great pictures!
Wow! What kind of suet do you use? We have Pileateds around but they dont come to the suet. :(
I actually have two types of suet out....Woodpecker and Sunflower seed.
All the woodpeckers seem to like the Sunflower Seed one first.
Wow,he is a good looking bird.
Very nice Richard, looks great in the snow.
I have a pileated that has been teasing me for a few weeks. Hear him a lot more than I see him. Really nice shots you have of this pair.
