Out and About The Yard

It's another overcast day but not the heavy stuff that we seem to be having a lot this spring. But it's spring and the temps are above normal, so not complaining one bit. I decided to make a trip around the yard to see what was going on and to start making my "Spring To-Do List" but even with the list I don't feel like doing a thing right now.

The first thing I found was my first two blooming crocus plants. Happy to see them and now know that the squirrels didn't get all the bulbs.

Next thing I spotted was this bird nest way out on the end of a tree branch. I don't know who made this but I'm sure someone out there will let me know.

Around on the front of the house to look at the lake. Almost all of the ice is gone and that which is left is in thin sheets of a half inch to one inch thick. The winds are out of the northeast today so those sheets have moved to our side of the lake (south side). I watched them this morning as they moved in really rapidly and when two sheets collided, they road up on each other. As you can see from the last picture, some of the ice still have reeds sticking up in them which tells me that the lake is now open from end to end since they grow all the way on the east end. We're about mid-point on the south side of a mile and a half long lake.

More birds have been seen lately but no pictures. I had a large group of Wood Ducks out front this morning but the ice forced them away. Not to worry, they will be back. And in the last couple of days, I've seen a Bald Eagle and a Great Blue Heron fly by but didn't have my camera with me.

I am envious of your crocus. They don't grow here and I miss seeing them in the spring.
