I just caught a glimpse of the animal and my first thought was a white squirrel but the tail wasn't right. So I got in a better position and waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing happen, so I started watching birds again only to see the white streak again going back to the brush pile. Again, I didn't get a good look. So more waiting until finally another streak. Good thing I had the camera on burst mode because I only got two pictures in 10 feet to give you a idea of how fast the critter was. I saw that it was carrying something but couldn't tell what it was.
After running the pictures through the computer and cropping and then a Google search, I came up with the ID of a Ermine in it's winter coloring (white with a black tip on the tail). Common Names: Short-tailed Weasel, Stout, Royskatt. I may have seen a second one that had some brown on it and what it was carrying in it's mouth was a Sparrow which gives you a good size comparison.
More tomorrow.

Very well done!
Luck and a fast draw is what you need to get these photos.
Of course, baiting with sparrows helped. ;-)
Oh, man! This is sooo coool!
Great nature experience and great shots. I would have been posting pictures of white snow and telling readers...it there somewhere!
NEAT! I've never seen one and didn't expect it to be so small. It looks a little nasty in that last photo.
WOW!!! Amazing capture.
Blessings,Ruth
Wow - that's pretty cool, Richard. He's really beautiful. Good for you for being patient!
That is SOOO COOL! I have never heard of one, so it makes me that much more excited for you! They sure are cute! Can't wait for more great photos of him!
Amazing shots—especially since even a blurred ermine photo is more than many nature photographers ever manage. I never see one without being reminded of that "ermines and pearls" line from the old Sinatra song, "The Lady is a Tramp." Seeing one makes you realize how small they are and how many it would take to make a full-length coat. They are, however, bloodthirsty little critters, as the sparrow proves.
Oh my Richard!!! That is amazing!!!!
I can see why it was hard to see against that snow. Beautiful animal. Great picture. Helen
Oh my! They must be fast little buggers to catch a bird. and so that is a compliment to you, for catching him with your camera!
